5 Truths about Evangelistic action that everyone needs to know! (Acts 8: 26-40)

            We talk about 5 truths in this article, but in no way wish to restrict the matter, because there are many other biblical truths about evangelism. Our article has only didactic purposes, aiming to highlight some principles taken from the book of Acts 8: 26-40, regarding the evangelistic experience of Philip. Let's check them out:
1- God chooses his servants for each individual task he wishes to carry out! "And the angel spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go ..."  Philip was not the only evangelist of his time; nor was he unoccupied, nor the closest geographically. These issues are often decisive for us when we are making choices and planning. But these elements are not part of God's logic. God is not limited to those who will first pass through the site, or those who are willing to go. Phillip was very involved with the growing work he was performing in Samaria. From God's perspective, Philip had the right profile for that service, so this opportunity was given to him.
2 God leads His servants to be at the right place and time to carry out  the task! "Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert." I'm absolutely sure that despite this era's technology, even if Phillip used GPS or Google Maps, he still wouldn't come to that eunuch! The description of the place is not specific, it's like finding a needle in a haystack. For many, such lack of specification precludes any action. But for Phillip, that information was enough. He understood that God was giving him only one direction because God Himself would lead him to the right place at the right time. We also need to question and obstruct less, for God to surprise us more! Often our greatest resistance to make a decision is due to us not having all the answers to our questions. But if the day comes that we have, then we will not act in faith anymore!
3- God prepares the people who will receive His word in advance! "So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” This is the most impressive and significant part of the narration. On the one hand, there is a servant called to serve, not knowing where, how and whom! On the other, the one that will be served, not knowing what will be served, but waiting for the service! The Eunuch was a precious vase that had to be rescued by the Potter. In a unique and wonderful way, God was preparing the ground (the heart of the eunuch) for the seed that was coming (Isaiah's text exposition). Phillip's task was a partnership with God, he would complete and finish what God was already doing. This security is critical to any evangelist, wherever or whoever he talks to, he will not come before the Holy Spirit, he will only finish the work that the Spirit has begun.
4 God manages the circumstances in order for the action to happen as he planned! "And the Spirit said to Philip: Go near and join thyself to this chariot ..." The revelation of God's purposes to Philip was progressive and proportional to his obedient response. God did not anticipate information before he was prepared to receive them. Phillip had to be in the right place and in the right position to receive new instructions from God. When he reaches the place and the target appears, God introduces and instructs how to proceed. The interesting fact is that he did not arrive late or early for this meeting. He did not miss the target because he was dependent on God who was leading.
 5- God determines the results of his action! "And the eunuch said, Behold water; What prevents me from being baptized? ".The convenience of this oasis is something fantastic! It comes at the exact right time, like a friend of mine would say: A true Jesuscidence! The eunuch's response was positive, as expected, because God was working in his favor. We can not say that all evangelistic action will result in immediate conversions as the eunuch. But who said that the goal of preaching is exclusively for conversion? Who said that only the conversion worthy is the immediate one or one that is visible? There will be many situations in which evangelistic action will and should happen because all mankind needs to hear the preaching. There will be other situations where the conversion will come in a process that will begin with the action, but will still develop further in time in the lives of listeners.

A menudo escuchamos frases que nos llaman la atención y que difícilmente salen de nuestra mente. Este último sábado, durante una programación de evangelización donde estaban presentes alrededor de 50 personas, hemos visto cinco vidas entregándose a Cristo. Una de las ellas me dijo: “¿Cómo pude vivir tanto tiempo sin conocer esta verdad?” Fueron exactamente estas palabras que me motivaron a escribir este pensamiento.

El apóstol Pedro en el texto de I Pedro 4:1, tiene como objetivo despertar la iglesia para repasar su conducta religiosa, sus prioridades y quehaceres. El v. 3  nos dice que ya hemos perdido demasiado tiempo de nuestras vidas sin vivir en la presencia de Dios y que ya no podemos desperdiciarlo más. El objetivo de nuestra salvación no fue realizar la voluntad de los hombres, es decir, vivir conforme a los valores y prioridades de aquellos que aún no conocen a Dios. “Baste ya el tiempo pasado.”

Pedro dice: “¡El tiempo que resta en la carne es muy poco!”; él tenía en mente los acontecimientos que sucederían en un futuro próximo, como la locura de Nerón y la persecución de Roma. De una forma u otra, nuestro tiempo también es corto, pues a cualquier momento Jesús volverá para buscar Su iglesia, o puede que nosotros mismos seamos llamados por Él a Su presencia. Por lo tanto, ¡no podemos perder más tiempo!

¡Somos llamados a vivir la voluntad del Padre!, ¿Será que la estamos cumpliendo?, ¿Será que comprendemos plenamente cuál es Su voluntad para nuestras vidas?

Recordemos ahora la frase que oí, aquellas personas creían que estaban viviendo la voluntad de Dios. Su sorpresa fue percibir que, aunque estuvieran (en el caso de los salvos por la fe) involucradas con las actividades de la iglesia, no estaban de hecho, dando prioridad a la voluntad mayor de Dios para la vida de Su pueblo.

¡Ninguna actividad eclesiástica puede ser más importante que el comprometimiento de anunciar el Evangelio de la gracia de Dios, a fin de que vidas sean salvas en Cristo!

El apóstol Pedro en el v.7 nos recuerda que el fin de todas las cosas se acerca. El fin no estaba tan cerca de Pedro como lo está hoy de nosotros. También no sabemos cuánto tiempo tenemos hasta que llegue este momento, sin embargo el Espíritu Santo es quien produce en nuestro un sentimiento de responsabilidad a fin de que nos conformemos a una vida de apatía espiritual. En nuestras iglesias hay mucha gente acomodada porque creen que el fin aún está muy lejos. ¡Muchos serán sorprendidos en ese día final!

¡Vivamos esta semana como si fuese la última! ¡No dejemos para después aquello que  urge! No pongamos otra prioridad ante la suprema voluntad de Dios.

¡Qué Dios nos conceda a todos una excelente semana llena de oportunidades para hablar de Su amor!

5 Verdades da Ação Evangelística que todos precisam saber! (Atos 8:26-40)

Ao anunciar 5 verdades, de forma alguma desejamos restringir o assunto, há muitas outras verdades bíblicas acerca da evangelização. Nosso tema tem efeito apenas didático, para destacar alguns princípios extraídos do livro de Atos 8:26-40, quanto a experiência evangelistica de Felipe. Vamos a eles:

1- Deus escolhe seus servos para cada ação que deseja realizar!

“E o anjo falou a Felipe, dizendo: Levanta-te e vai...” vs.26

Felipe não era o único evangelista de sua época; nem tão pouco o que estava desocupado, nem ainda o mais perto geograficamente. Essas questões são muitas vezes decisivas para nós, na hora de fazermos escolhas e planejamentos. Mas esses elementos não fazem parte da lógica de Deus. Deus não está limitado a quem vai passar primeiro pelo local, ou de quem está disposto a ir. Felipe estava muito envolvido com a obra crescente que realizava em Samaria. Na perspectiva de Deus, Felipe tinha o perfil adequado para aquele serviço, por isso essa oportunidade foi dada a ele.

2- Deus conduz o seus servos para que estejam na hora e no lugar certo da ação!

“Levanta-te e vai para a banda do Sul, ao caminho que desce de Jerusalém para Gaza, que está deserto.” vs.26

Eu tenho certeza que apesar da tecnologia dos nossos dias, se Felipe usasse GPS ou colocasse essas coordenadas o Google, ele não chegaria até aquele eunuco! A descrição do lugar não é nada específica, é como achar uma agulha no palheiro. Para muitos, uma falta de especificação como essa impossibilita qualquer ação. Mas para Felipe as informações bastaram. Ele entendeu que Deus estava lhe dando apenas uma direção, porque Deus mesmo o conduziria até o lugar certo no momento certo. Precisamos questionar e obstacular menos, para que Deus nos surpreenda mais! Muitas vezes nossas maiores resistências para tomar uma decisão é não ter todas as respostas as nossas perguntas. No dia em que a tivermos, deixaremos de agir por fé!

3- Deus prepara antecipadamente as pessoas que irão receber a Sua ação!

“Correndo Felipe, ouviu que lia o profeta Isaias...” vs.30

Essa é a parte mais impressionante e significativa da narração. De um lado há um servo, chamado para servir, sem saber aonde, como e a quem servir! Do outro, aquele que irá ser servido, sem saber que será servido, mas esperando o serviço! O Mordomo de Candace era um vaso precioso que precisava ser resgatado pelo Oleiro. Deus uma forma singular e maravilhosa Deus estava preparando o solo (coração do eunuco) para a semente que viria (a exposição do texto de Isaias). A ação de Felipe é de parceria, ele haveria de completar e concluir o que Deus já estava fazendo. Essa segurança é fundamental para qualquer evangelista: aonde ou a quem ele for, ele não chegará primeiro que o Espírito Santo, ele apenas completará a obra que o Espírito já iniciou.

4- Deus gerencia as circunstancias afim de que a Ação aconteça como previsto!

“E disse o Espírito a Felipe: Chega-te e ajunta-te a esse carro...” vs.29

A revelação dos propósitos de Deus a Felipe foi progressiva e proporcional a sua resposta obediente. Deus não antecipou informações antes que ele estivesse preparado para recebe-las. Felipe precisou estar no lugar e na posição certa para receber as novas instruções de Deus. Quando ele chega ao lugar e o alvo aparece, Deus o apresenta e o instrui como proceder. O fato interessante é que ele não chegou atrasado nem antecipado para esse encontro. Ele não errou o alvo porque estava na dependência de Deus, que o estava conduzindo.

5- Deus determina os resultados de Sua ação!

“E disse o eunuco: Eis aqui água; que impede que eu seja batizado?” vs.36

A conveniência desse oásis é algo fantástico! Ele surge no momento certo, como diria um amigo meu: Uma verdadeira Jesuscidência! A resposta do eunuco foi positiva e dentro do esperado, porque Deus estava agindo em Seu favor. Não podemos afirmar que toda ação evangelistica resultará em conversões imediatas como a do eunuco. Mas quem disse que o objetivo da pregação é exclusivamente a conversão? Quem disse que a conversão que vale é a imediata ou ainda aquela que é manifesta visivelmente?

Haverá muitas situações que a ação evangelistica deverá acontecer porque toda a humanidade deve ouvir a pregação. Haverá outras situações em que a conversão virá num processo, que se iniciará com a ação, mas que ainda se desenvolverá por um tempo na vida dos ouvintes.  

Mantenha essas 5 verdades em seu coração e tenha uma boa semana de evangelização!

Reflection of Missions: ...But to the will of God! (by Rev. Eraldo Gueiros)

"For the time left you in the flesh, ye shall live no longer according to the will of men, but to the will of God," 1 Pet. 4:2

There are phrases that catch the attention of people and hardly go out of our heads. Last Saturday, during an evangelistic program with about 50 people, had the grace to reach 5 conversions. One of the people who had expressed his desire to change his life told me: "How did I live so long without knowing these truths". Interestingly the previous week, during a missions conference where we preached, some believers of the church, to the end of the service, told me: "How did we live so long without giving value to these truths". Were exactly those words that motivated me to write this reflection. 

The Apostle Peter when he writes this text 1Pe.4: 1, aims to awaken the church to revise its religious conduct, their priorities and the chores. As we see in vs.3, he understands that we have already lost so much of our lives without living in the presence of God, we can not waste more time! We are not saved to continue doing the will of men, or living with the values and priorities of those who do not know God. We've done that enough in the past. 

Peter says, "the time left to us in the flesh is very little"; he had in view the events that would follow in the near future (like the madness of Nero and the persecution of Rome). Over one way or another, our time is too short, because at any moment Jesus could come back for his church, or ourselves, we can go early to the Father together So we can not waste any more time! 

We are called to live the will of the Father! Will we live? Do we know fully what your Father's will for our lives? Returning the phrases I heard, those people thought they were living the will of God. The awe of them was realizing that while they were (for the believers) involved with church activities, were not in fact prioritizing what was the greater will of God for the lives of His people. No church activity may be more important than the commitment to seek to save lives! 

In vs.7, Peter reminds us that the end of all things is near. Was not as close as it is to us. Nor do we know how long it'll be until the arrival of the End, but I believe this is a feeling that is produced by the Holy Spirit, so that we may accommodate us. It has a lot of people accommodated in churches today because they think the time is still far from the end. One day we will all be surprised! 

Live this week as if it were the last! Do not delay what is urgent! Do not put your priorities in front of the priority of God.
